Tooth Extractions An Overview
Although considered the option of last resort, there are certain circumstances in which a tooth extraction is considered necessary to maintain or restore your dental health:
- Crowding of teeth: a tooth extraction may be necessary when teeth are overcrowded or crooked and is often part of an orthodontic treatment plan.
- Wisdom teeth: most patients will need to have their wisdom teeth, or third molars extracted because they are impacted in the bone or shifting other teeth due to lack of space.
- Severe damage or infection: if a tooth is considered to be too damaged or decayed for other restorative measures, an extraction and tooth replacement may be best for your oral and overall health.
In the case of tooth pain due to decay or damage, a tooth extraction will provide relief and begin the healing process. Our dentists in Indianapolis, Drs. Carole and Robin Thoman, can perform most tooth extractions in the comfort of our office using a local anesthetic or dental sedation to ensure your comfort.
